When we decided to go with black and white cabinetry in the kitchen, it was important to us to tie in some of the reclaimed wood used on the fireplace mantel and the beams in the living room. We wanted to warm up the space and keep the entire house cohesive. The hood vent was a great place to do that.
We found inspiration in this gorgeous kitchen hood vent by Sita Montgomery Interiors:
As well as this one on Ten June:
For our kitchen, we went with reclaimed open shelving on either side of the hood vent, and kept with a traditional hood vent shape.
The wood on the bottom of the hood vent was the perfect way to mirror the wood mantel in the living room. The shiplap used on the hood vent was the same shiplap used on the fireplace mantel wall in the living room.
We love the way it turned out! The reclaimed wood added a bit of the rustic to balance out the modern black and white, but it was minimal enough to keep it from overwhelming the space. Check out our Modern Farmhouse Inspiration board on Pinterest to see more images that inspired us!
Build me one just like it. I have some old wood around my place that could be repurposed.
That can be arranged!
